Technology

Do you have any lingering questions, comments, thoughts leaving today's sessions?

  • I wish we had access to the technology platforms when they were being discussed.
  • I was still unable to log in to my new school email address via Outlook.
  • Where can I access the parent/teacher communication portal through Power School?
  • I wish we had access to the technology platforms when they were being discussed.
  • My Google drive account does not work. I can’t get in with my IPS email.
  • Create better tech distribution lines.
  • I had IT problems today and wasn’t able to participate in some sessions. Other than that I enjoyed the enthusiasm and knowledge of speakers!

Morning of Day 1

Afternoon of Day 1

How will you apply your learning from today's Induction?

  • I will have the mindset of the power of yet as Dr. Johnson talked about in her intro welcome. I will also save all of the websites that were discussed and clever to my favorites.
  • Technology session was very helpful
  • I will use my connections in order to provide better support to my students!
  • Learning as much as I can through Clever and how to utilize all apps.
  • I wonder more about the insurance and benefits, I hope to check out the FAQs
  • I'll definitely use the health and wellness activities to my class since I'll be teaching 80 minute blocks.

Do you have any lingering questions, comments, thoughts leaving today's sessions?

  • I wonder more about the insurance and benefits, I hope to check out the FAQs
  • It was frustrating to have a 30 minute session on Kronos without being able to log in. There were no handouts to refer back to after the 24th
  • Are students required to have parental permission to see the nurse for small things?

Overall: Do you have any lingering questions, comments, thoughts leaving today's sessions?

  • Will there be any time for me to get my classroom set up before district wide PD?
  • When will I learn what schools I will support as a coach?
  • More opportunities to get up and move
  • Giving out the agenda ahead of time so people know what to expect.
  • Slower speaking, or not as rushed rotations on key components (technology, payroll, etc)
  • Coffee!
  • More moving around and interactive presentations, working sound systems. Having us do stuff instead of telling us how to do something.
  • Less packed day with more time to discuss and process
  • Treat us like adults please! Some speakers talk to use like children. I get it we all have education backgrounds but it seems unnecessary!
  • Casual dress.
  • Maybe some forced ice breakers with other schools 😂
  • Slow down and make sure we have access to information. A lot of assumptions that we understand what and where to find information
  • I enjoyed day one. They said it would be a long three days, and that has been true so far. I like the pacing of the sessions.
  • It could be more engaging. Many of us seem tired and not engaged. I think that having notes to follow along with or moving around more would help.

Day 2

  • Letter to your future self
  • Content Breakouts
  • Special Education 101
  • Equitable Supports
  • Act Out
  • Building Relationships
  • ENL

Feedback

Looking at the reflections specifically from Day 2 are noted below.

Morning Session: Content Breakouts

What was the most positive part of today's learning?

Do you have any lingering questions, comments, thoughts leaving today's sessions?

  • Talking with the SPED panel and learing about what my role and supports will look like.
  • Connecting with teammates.
  • Getting our pacing guides
  • Creating relationships with other teachers. Meeting other Fine Arts educators and learning about the resources available yo me as a first year music teacher.
  • I loved getting to talk with other teachers of my content area!!
  • I love that you had a break out session for every different role! Meeting my fellow social workers was amazing!

  • I am still hoping to have access to the pacing guide and curriculum for elementary music education.
  • I am a little nervous of the new CKLA Curriculum, but I know where I can get support with implementing and pacing.

Afternoon Sessions

What was the most positive part of today's learning?

  • All children will and can learn regardless of their level.
  • I really enjoyed act out because it allowed us to see the situations and talk them through first hand.
  • The relationships session was very engaging!
  • I really enjoyed the afternoon breakout sessions. Especially the building relationships seminar.
  • ENL was very insightful for the experience of students.

How will you apply your learning from today's Induction?

Do you have any lingering questions, comments, thoughts leaving today's sessions?

  • I will be able to quickly access the pacing guides!
  • I will apply it daily in my activities by following through the processes described with writing and implementing my IEPS
  • Ensuring equity and safety in all spaces.
  • Make sure I stay for the entire iep meetings
  • I will use the Building Relationships the most outside of the curriculum material.
  • I can apply ENL data to guide my teaching
  • I'm more aware of how individuals perceive cultures different than their own, making me prepared on how to respond.
  • Use the 4:1 interaction ratio
  • I will consider how my language effects students every day
  • Purpose over power

  • What technology is available to support learners with ILPs and IEPs
  • Who are we supposed to connect with other than our ENL teacher for EL support in our classroom if we do not have a bilingual assistant at our school?
  • I wish I knew more about how to handle things after the 1st or 2nd time especially when it comes to phones or other behavioral issues. If I have already had a conversation with the student, their parents, and even other teachers, what support do I have and what actions should I take?

Overall

What was the most positive part of today's learning?

  • The math manipulatives and time to explore curriculum was the most positive part of the day because they felt the most productive for my current position.
  • The overall energy of the staff is amazing. The encouragement and enthusiasm gears me to be more excited and confident with the tools and driving my scholars towards success. We will be learning together.
  • I felt more relaxed about starting for the first time!
  • I recognize that I am surrounded by multiple teams who are united in providing support to me and my students to ensure that we foster a positive learning environment, and I am deeply encouraged by that.

How will you apply your learning from today's Induction?

  • As a student teacher I had minimum exposure to everything in Clever. Now that I have attended today’s induction, navigating the site is no longer intimidating.
  • Planning and prep
  • By referring back to my why.

Do you have any lingering questions, comments, thoughts leaving today's sessions?

  • I think it might have been helpful to have more time for movement and engagement because it was hard to stay focused in the lengthy sessions.
  • We should encourage people to put pronouns on nametags. Help with relationship building between colleagues and trickle down to students
  • There should be a survey sent out about lunch options. There were not enough options and too much of things people didn’t want.
  • I am still unable to log in to Google Drive, so I can't access a lot of the documents I need.
  • Information is good; hands-on practice is even better. Let's implement some of the same strategies intentionally with each other that we do with our students. Today was even better than yesterday regarding that, but there is always room to grow.

Day 3

  • Clipboard Activity
  • PowerSchool
  • Digital Resources
  • Learning Management Systems & GoGuardian

Feedback

Looking at the reflections specifically from Day 3 are noted below.

Morning Sessions

What was the most positive part of today's learning?

  • PowerSchool and Unified Home Connections
  • Making a clipboard

How will you apply your learning from today's Induction?

  • With my better understanding of digital resources I feel as though I am more prepared for my classes
  • Use go guardian as a management tool and only communicate via KINVO or phone call

Do you have any lingering questions, comments, thoughts leaving today's sessions?

  • Just a comment that it was frustrating sitting through hours of technology training when some people do not yet have access to the websites we were being trained on. It was hard to follow along

Afternoon Sessions

What was the most positive part of today's learning?

  • the lady who made IB people get up and play the corner game
  • Watching the UFLI Classroom demonstration
  • Being with other counselors
  • Finally learning about what will happen in the Montessori classroom
  • Dr. Payne’s session was amazing.
  • Katie is the best and made everything feel more positive and calm

How will you apply your learning from today's Induction?

Do you have any lingering questions, comments, thoughts leaving today's sessions?

  • Accessing student data for IILP
  • i now know what IB is
  • I hope to try out Canva in the classroom to help my students use what they are learning in the classroom
  • I will apply my learning on how to collaborate with other subjects as a STEM school

  • District-wide Pacing guide/curriculum guide vs. IB units.

Overall

What was the most positive part of today's learning?

  • When I was able to go to the choice sessions in the afternoon it was incredibly beneficial! I was in a smaller group and was able to truly dig in and ask my questions. Highly suggest using this style throughout all three days!!
  • Networking
  • A lot of the loose ends seem to have been sewed together.

How will you apply your learning from today's Induction?

  • Reaching and teaching ALL learners!
  • I’ll use it to help get off to a strong start
  • Keep kids backgrounds in mind, but not pre-judge them
  • It solidified my opinion that I want to use art and creativity as much as possible during my lessons.
  • I will apply being humble and open with culture, technology, and teaching strategies. This is my first year in high school education, and I will do my best to learn as much as I can while I am supporting students with their writing.

Do you have any lingering questions, comments, thoughts leaving today's sessions?

  • The team has done a great job in giving a lot of information. However, it would have been nice if there had been more differentiation by role regarding technology. Also, as professionals, we should be paid for these days.
  • Yes a lot of the information seemed to contradict itself. I learned about 4 different ways to send messages to parents which was confusing. It was also difficult to learn about all of these resources like Toddle and Schoology when most people don’t have full access
  • Thank you for three very informative days! A lot of work went into this and I’m appreciative.
  • Continue doing this type of Onboarding for new staff. It was great!
  • Wonderful experience overall! Thank you for providing lunch! :)

Overall

Please share and additional feedback/context while reflecting on the previous questions.

  • i think this could have been more concise, and some of the logins were blocked for all attendees. I understand the people organizing this probably have limited control over that, but it makes me question the utility of the sessions we couldn't follow along with
  • I LOVED how organized everything was throughout the induction.
  • I liked the rotations.
  • Overall get the audience involved and talking. We do not want our students to be sitting the whole time and not get involved, so why should we have teachers do it too?
  • Provide options for handouts for learners that like hands on
  • Overall I loved this experience. It helped create more enthusiasm for the job!
  • People with dietary needs should be allowed to go first. I am gluten free and by the time my table was dismissed on day 2 there were no longer gluten free options that suited my preferences
  • Is it possible to set up mock classrooms/courses so that everyone can fully participate and engage throughout every session?
  • Having more differentiated sessions in small groups in classrooms would help rectify this, leveraging some of the teacher leaders in schools (like technology leads) to deliver content. With the high number of sit-and-get tech sessions, I'd prefer to internalize these as pre-work (which I did since the sessions were online) and then take a pre-test. If we pass this test, we participate in collaborative or independent work time instead of sitting in the session.
  • It was very overwhelming for a first year teacher. Some topics should have been more hands on and given more time. I feel like we sped through some really important topics. Induction was helpful though and I am thankful for this opportunity
  • All 3 days are very helpful because I am new in IPS.
  • Have all the passwords working so we can access everything
  • Identifying what something is should not take more than a few minutes. Boringly delivered information is not helpful. Practical applications and examples should be used to make the lessons more relevant. Tech programs should be already prepared so that we can access them while they are being discussed. Overall, I thought IPS did an excellent job.
  • I really enjoyed the choice sessions!! Especially because we were able to work in smaller groups, it felt a lot more engaging and useful.
  • I was really grateful that they took allergies into consideration. Often at events like this I'm unable to eat anything.
  • Moving the device pick-up to the gym was a great idea! I loved the opportunity to 'go shopping in the cafeteria on Tuesday. :)

Common Feedback:

  • Technology
    • Getting access to platforms: Outlook, Google, Clever
    • Impacts being able to follow along during sessions.
  • Sit and Get facilitating
    • We tell teachers to make learning engaging, but we are not modeling that expectation.
